Culture

Labor Day, 2012! Today, people are on Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn NY jumping to the rhythmic sounds of the Islands. I remembered my very first Labor Day in Brooklyn. It was September 1975, and I was extremely excited. There was so much to see! Lots of music, food, costumes, and people. I remembered being tired when that day was over. Today, I'm resting in my home. Not as excited about the parade as time past, simply because each year, the event has been marred by violence of some sort. Not every one there is there to do good. Neither does everyone there understands the Caribbean/West Indian culture. Nevertheless, whenever I have the chance again, I will continue to stand on the sidelines and watch the bands and people go by. I love my heritage.
